My Prize From Create For Less

“Looky! Looky! What I got!”

My Prize From Create For Less

I was the week one winner in the 11th Anniversary Giveaway.  I won the Martha Stewart Craft Station.  I was so excited when I came home today and saw the box by my gate.

I have been so down lately with health problems and this was just a WONDERFUL treat that really brightened up my day – my whole month in fact.  My granddaughter and I sat right down and played with the station.  We had a blast and I can see many happy hours of crafting with the station.  Thanks so much Create For Less.

Site Recommendation: Step By Step – Gingerbread Theme Crafts & Activities for Children

Site Recommendation: Step By Step – Gingerbread Theme Crafts & Activities for Children

Gingerbread is a sweet that can take the form of a cookie or a cake in which the predomiant flavor is ginger.

I’ve visited this site by Janna several times and it popped up again in a recent search so I just have to share it with you.

It appears to no longer be active but there is so much FANTASTIC INFO here that it’s a shame not to use it!

While there is a lot of great information on the day-to-day operation of a daycare  the pages that caught my eye are the great pre-schooler arts & crafts project.  And you already KNOW how I love anything to do with cookies and the like, so the pages  that jumped right out at me were the Gingerbread Theme “fun stuff to do” pages!

What will you find on these three pages? More fun stuff than you can shake a stick cupcake at.  Here’s a brief rundown of the catagories of information shared there.

  • arts & craft projects,
  • books,
  • games & actitities,
  • links,
  • recipies,
  • songs,
  • stories,
  • worksheets

Stop by and take a look at all the great gingerbread themed stuff.  I love the “Gingerbread House” card, the gingerbread molding dough, the sandpaper gingerbread candy cane holders, and the tons of links to other sites.

Thanks so much for dropping in.  I hope you stop back again soon.  And as always please leave a comment don’t make me beg for a comment!

Site Review: Listia dot com

Site Review: Listia dot com

I have been gaga for a little over a year (since June 23, 2011) about listia.com.

Listia is a site where you can trade items you don’t need anymore for credits and then get free stuff in return you want with the credits you earned by listing your unwanted items. Click here to read the rules.

1) List Old Stuff

Give away stuff you don’t use anymore like clothes, electronics, DVDs, toys, books… anything!

2) Earn Credits

People bid on your stuff using credits they’ve earned. The highest bid wins.

3) Get New Stuff

Use credits you’ve earned for giving stuff away and win something you want!

What can you get? Hand-made craft items, crafts materials, vintage items, buttons, pretty much everything (except I haven’t seen a kitchen sink yet!).

I “recycle” my extra craft items here get LOTS of “NEW TO ME” crafting materials, so not only are you sharing items you don’t need with others you are getting lots of great stuff you’d like to try in exchange.

Take a look and start “trading” items today. Click here for an invite and you will get 100 credits to spend just for joining.

Click here to see my current & recent auctions:

I will be listing these items soon:

  • Christmas in July: 144 Craft Items & a GIN Bonus of 12 Craft Kits
  • Lot of Sugar Cookie & Gingerbread Christmas Craft Items & Craft Kits

Thanks so much for taking a look at my second favorite site (guess which is first???) these days.  I’d love to see you join Listia.  If you already are using Listia or join let me know your “handle” because I’d love to trade items with you.

My Versatile Blogger Nomination

I am so delighted to receive my first “The Versatile Blogger Nomination” from Shelia T. of Sheila T Illustrated Shuttr Mania: Take Life to the Matte ©

You can read about it and see the sites Shelia also nominated at the link below.

http://sheilatphotography.wordpress.com/2012/02/22/versatile-blogger-x-2/

This award comes with a responsibility – follow three simple rules – which I am glad to accept.

1. Thank the one who nominated you for the award and include a link to their blog.

I want to thank Shelia T. at Sheila T Illustratedhttp://sheilatphotography.wordpress.com/” for nominating me for the “The Versatile Blogger Award.”

This absolutely comes as a complete and total surprise and I can’t be more delighted.

She is a talented self-taught photographer living in Indiana.  She has travelled extensively in the US and hopes to travel more worldwide to complete her “Bucket List”.

I always look forward to seeing the photos she shares with her followers every Sunday.

Please take the time to view her blog.  You’ll be glad you did!

I love what I take to be her motto on life “So what if people stare.  Take a picture. It’ll last longer.”

Thank you so much, Shelia T., for the honor and encouragement.

2. Reveal 7 Things about Yourself.

  • First thing:  My name is Melba.  I hated it my life (and my super curly hair) for most of my life.  It’s only in the past 20 years that I have come to appreciate both.  It is nice to have an unusual name – most people remember your name (even if you can’t remember theirs!).
  • Second thing:  My computer keyboard sticks because my darling granddaughter (Yeah! Right!) spilled honey into it.  I am equally both too lazy to take it all apart and clean it and too cheap to replace it.
  • Third thing:  I have been married for 29 LONG (but certainly not boring) years and have a step-daughter and three lovely grandchildren and a teenage son.  We have custody of one grandchild who lives with us.  I LOVE them all dearly, but I am glad when school is in!!!
  • Fourth thing:  After about a 10 year hiatus because of multiple health problems I once again doing what I LOVE to do – craft.  My craft materials are once again taking over the whole house.  I have GOT to reign them in!
  • Fifth thing:   I simply can’t pass a clearance sale without picking something up!  It is absolutely impossible for me!  That’s why I have SO MUCH CRAFT STUFF that I simply have to give it away!  I discovered Listia.com in this past year and have greatly enjoyed giving my extra stuff away and being able to choose great NEW stuff in return!
  • Sixth thing: I have trouble with numbers and letters.  I think I might be a little dyslexic, but I have learned to cope with this myself and I don’t guess it’s such a problem that I need to see medical help.  That’s also probably why I have 9 blogs I like in step number 3 instead of seven.
  • Seventh thing:  But it could also be that I just can’t make up my mind about which ones to include!  So, I guess the seventh thing is that I’m an invertebrate waffler!

3. Bestow the same honor on 7 blogs that you enjoy reading/viewing on a regular basis.

  1. http://eyeballsbydaycraftsbynight.wordpress.com/  Maggie –my first follow!
  2. http://antidotestudioblog.wordpress.com/ Sarah – just love the tips on this blog!
  3. http://middlebrickroad.com/  Kacey – always a great read!
  4. http://www.feelslikehomeblog.com/ Tara – fellow cookie cutter fanatic!
  5. http://onegirlgeek.wordpress.com/ Jennifer a.k.a. Fellow Dr. Whovian!
  6. http://www.megacrafty.com/ – also loves to “podge”
  7. http://amybrinager.wordpress.com/  Amy – one of my newest follows!
  8. http://gingerbreadsnowflakes.com/ I love the name of this blog!
  9. http://www.lisas-craft-blog.com/ Lisa – got me started craft blogging!

I really love all the blogs listed above.  It was hard to narrow it down to just seven (OK nine!).  Please take the time to view thier blogs.  And let them know you are viewing on buggalcrafts recomendation.

Thanks again to  Sheila T Illustrated  for nominating me for the “The Versatile Blogger Award.”

SITE REVIEW: SHinDigZ

SITE REVIEW: SHinDigZ

http://www.shindigz.com

I got a new catalogue in the mail day before yesterday. At first I thought it was just another Oriental Trading Co. catalogue – it does look awfully similar – but it has some unique stuff inside.  So of course being the on-line kind of (bug)GAL I am, I just thumbed through it and at the first opportunity settled down to look at the on-line site and see what they have to offer.

Bet ya can’t guess what the first thing I looked up?  Well, you’re WRONG!

It was “Mardi Gras”, “cookie cutters” was the SECOND thing I looked at!  And do they have some cute ones, that I was looking for anyway: “ninja-bread” men, skeleton gingerbread man, and the “already been chewed gingerbread men!”.  Can’t wait to order these!  They also have lots of stuff for a baking party (which BTW I will be mentioning some great baking party tips in my cookie cutter series post on “Kid’s Crafts”.

The company, in existence since 1926, supplies all kinds of party supplies:  paper goods, party favors, party crafts, candy bars, banners, all kinds of personalized party supplies, decorations, gossamer fabric, and the list goes on and on!  I can definitely see myself placing an order soon.   It remains to be seen if they can replace good old OT in my heart.  But I’ll give them a fair shake and I ask that you do the same too.

There is mention on-line about “party hosts”.  It appears that you are a party consultant and work on commission.  Sounds interesting, will have to inquire about it, might be nice part time work.

They also have a GREAT GIVEAWAY going.  You can enter your idea to “make life more fun” for someone.  Enter it by “liking” SHinDigZ on Facebook and then writing a paragraph on whose live you would like to make more fun and why.  You can win a gift certificate.  Of course I have entered and if you could please run over to Facebook and VOTE FOR MY IDEA I’D APPRECIATE IT GREATLY!  You can only vote once in 24 hours. You can submit a new idea every week.  I am hoping to win a gc for my Wednesday night kids group.

Did you know they have a presence on wordpress?  Take a look at the link below.  Now, I wonder if this is how the catalogue found its way to me?   But it’s a happy addition to my on-line “family”!

http://shindigzparty.wordpress.com/

For signing up for e-mail offers I got a coupon code for FREE SHIPPING!  And the e-mail said I could share the promo code with my friends & family, so here it is for you to use too!

  • To FREE SHIPPING on orders of $65 or more, enter WSQ3RQ in the promotional code box at checkout. Offer is good for ground shipping within the continental United States only. Promo code is good through 02/01/12, 11:59 PM EST. Offer valid only for on-line orders from Shindigz.com. Offer cannot be combined with any other offer and does not apply to taxes, or duty charges. Not valid for prior purchases. Promotion is non-negotiable.

Thanks so much for reading this post.  I hope it can be of use to you.  Please do stop back in again.

Altered-Art dot Net Review

Altered-Art dot Net

http://www.altered-art.net/

I call myself doing ‘altered art’ when I take something like a store bought Christmas ornament and then take it an change it by painting over it and starting fresh or I take something that is a decorative item and then add craft items to it.  I don’t know if this is really what is meant by the term ‘altered art’.  What is your opinion?  Since I didn’t have a clear picture of what the term meant I went to the web for a search and this is one of the best sites I found.

Up for your consideration is this site that tries to answer the apparently simple question ‘What is altered art?’.

Did you know that “the practice of altering existing works of art goes all the way back to the Middle Ages?”

And some great names in the art world that you will recognize immediately engaged in the practice of “altered art”?

It appears there are two stances on what ‘altered art’ is.

  • “Involves altering or combining existing works of art to produce new pieces of artwork.”
  • “The transformation or ‘alteration’ of ordinary, everyday objects into artistic pieces using, for example, rubber stamps, fabric, paper, paint and fibers.”Read more: http://www.altered-art.net/altered-art.html

This site has some great background information and instructions on techniques.

Read more: http://www.altered-art.net/altered-art-techniques.html

David and Maria, the site’s founders, are on hand to answer all your questions about this exciting form of creative expression.

I have started posting some of the things I do on my brand new craft blog. Take a look and comment to let me know your opinion on my projects – ‘altered art’ or not!
